TM - Torque Master Gearcase

The 2.5 liter Torque Master gearcase, designed for boats with heavier loads, features a built-in torque tab on the skeg for reduced steering torque.  Strut-mounted water pickups have stainless steel covers that direct water into the inlets, allowing outboards to be at elevated transom heights of 25" to 27" (635 mm to 685 mm), resulting in reduced drag and performance.

Three-liter Torque Master's feature dual water pickups (mounted on the nose of the torpedo and strut) for improved cooling while reducing ingestion of weeds.

The 2.5 liter Torque Master gearcase comes standard with a satin finish housing and a 1.87:1 gear ratio.  The 3.0 liter Torque Master, available on the 2003 Pro Max 300X and OptiMax 250XS, comes standard with a painted housing and 1.75:1 gear ratio

FM - Fleet Master Gearcase

The Fleet Master gearcase, similar in design to the Torque Master, features a painted housing for offshore applications.

Fleet Master gear housings feature dual water pickups (mounted on the nose of the torpedo and the strut) for additional water flow and cooling while reducing injestion of weeds.  Internal components are designed for submerged operation and are built to withstand the corrosive saltwater environment.  All 3.0 liter gearcases feature a radial discharge stainless water pump for improved engine cooling.  The Fleet Master gearcase is available on 25" Pro Max 300X and 25" and 30" OptiMax 250XS outboards.

SM - Sport Master Gearcase

A heavy-duty propshaft enhances the durability of 2.5 liter and 3.0 liter Sport Master gearcases.  A three-slot, low-water pickup design reduces the ingestion of weeds and other debris.  Right-hand rotation Sport Masters have a built-in torque tab on the skeg to reduce steering torque, improving control and overall boat performance.  Counter-rotation Sport Masters, featuring a symmetrical skeg without a torque tab, are available on all 2003 2.5 EFI outboards and select OptiMax 200XS, Pro Max 225X and Pro Max 300X models.

The Sport Master gearcase is designed to operate at transom heights of 27" to 30" (685 mm to 762 mm).  OptiMax 200XS, Pro Max 225X and 2.5 EFI models come standard with the 1.87:1 gear ratio Sport Master gearcase.  Twenty-inch OptiMax 250XS models come with the 1.75:1 Sport Master while Pro Max 300X offshore models come standard with the 1.62:1 Sport Master.

Larger cousin to the VI SSM gearcase, the 15:17 gear ratio, IV SSM direct drive gearcase is used with the Mercury Champ Race outboard.

VI SSM - VI Super Speed Master Gearcase

Used with the 2.0L Mercury SST 120/S2000 race outboards.  The 14:15 gear ratio VI SSM direct-drive gearcase is capable of handling up to 300 hp, spinning cleaver-style racing propellers in excess of 9000 rpm through the water.
